The Makowiec it is prepared with poppy seeds and, according to Polish tradition, they represent a sign of abundance and fertility and for this reason they are a symbol of good luck. Ingredients
Ingredients for the filling
- 125 gr poppy seeds
- 20 gr walnut kernels
- 30 gr raisins
- 30 gr diced candied orange
- 1 table spoon butter
- 1 table spoon honey
- 2 no eggs
- 200 gr of icing sugar
- 1 table spoon vodka
Ingredients for pasta
- 200 gr 00 flour
- 3 no eggs yolk
- 10 gr I drink beer
- 40 gr powdered sugar
- 100 ml milk
- 55 gr butter
- 1 sachet vanillin

Preparation of the pasta
- Dissolve the yeast with 25 ml of warm milk, a teaspoon of sugar and a tablespoon of flour.
- Cover and leave to rise for 15 minutes in a warm place.
- Then, whisk the egg yolks with the sugar to obtain a cream.
- Combine vanillin, flour, 75 ml of warm milk, yeast and butter (melted and left to cool).
- After obtaining a smooth and elastic dough, cover it with cling film and let it rise for a couple.
Preparation of the filling
- In the meantime, you can dedicate yourself to the filling: first, put the poppy seeds in a bowl covered with boiling water and let them rest with a lid on for half an hour.
- After having drained and squeezed them, blend them and add crumbled walnuts, raisins, candied orange cubes, butter (melted and left to cool), vodka.
- Whip the egg yolks with the icing sugar and separately whisk the egg whites until stiff.
- Then combine everything to obtain the filling.
Assemble
- Then roll out the dough once it has risen, then cover it with the filling, leaving a frame of a couple of cm.
- Roll up and place on a baking tray lined with baking paper, with the seal facing downwards.
- Cover with cling film and leave to rise for another 30 minutes.
- Bake in the oven at 180° for 45 minutes.
- Decorate as desired with candied fruit, sugar icing and poppy seeds.
