Terra Madre Salone del Gusto 2020: a global six-month edition, with digital, physical, and widespread events all over the world.
The claim of the edition Salone del Gusto 2020 è Our Food, Our Planet, Our Future. Food, planet, future: a chain of relationships that tell us how, depending on how we relate to our food – how we produce it, distribute it, choose it, consume it – this will have significantly different impacts on our planet.
Salone del Gusto 2020
“The entire world is experiencing a triple crisis – says Carlo Petrini – climate, economic and pandemic. A vision of deep change is needed. It will take time, but the seeds can already be seen in the economy expressed by the Terra Madre communities. It is time to recognize and amplify the value of these communities across the globe. The message is strong and clear: in this year so heavily marked by the suffering caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the global economic crisis, and lockdowns around the world, there is a value that not only has not been erased, but in fact has been brought back to the forefront, and many have finally become aware of its importance: the value of being part of a community.”

“Slow Food’s commitment has always been focused on biodiversity conservation, through respect for the environment, the promotion of agroecology, and the transmission of local knowledge,” explains Francesco Sottile, of the Executive Committee of Slow Food Italy. The dramatic events of the last months, such as the increase in deforestation in the Amazon, the fires in Australia, and record temperatures in Siberia, push us to broaden our commitment: thus, what was an objective, the defense of biodiversity, becomes for Slow Food the tool to combat climate change. “We do this through the activities of our community, producers, and farmers, over six months of cultural exchange,” Sottile continues.
A dialogue that, this year, adopts a different approach from previous editions: “We decided to change the lenses through which we read reality, putting aside national borders and instead focusing on ecosystems, that is the relationship between humans and nature, to understand problems that affect everyone, regardless of latitude and continent,” adds Serena Milano, Secretary General of the Slow Food Foundation for Biodiversity Onlus. We will talk about High Lands (meaning mountains and hills), Low Lands (plains), Water Lands (seas, rivers, and lakes) and the relationship between city and countryside: thanks to testimonies from the Slow Food network we will try to tell ideas, proposals, and solutions.

Terra Madre: appointments worldwide
The main gateway to Terra Madre Salone del Gusto 2020 is the web platform, accessible at www.terramadresalonedelgusto.
The first events are concentrated in the dates initially scheduled for the event, from October 8 to 12: Conferences, Food Talks, and many other innovative formats conceived by Slow Food to discuss the topics we care about most – nutrition, sustainability, environment, and equity – as well as traditional appointments like the Taste Workshops, which can be attended both remotely (by purchasing tasting kits for home use) and in presence.
