Boysenberries

The plants of Boysenberry produce a deep purple berry that grows after the blooming of a white flower. These large berries can grow on vines unlike blackberries which do not grow on upright bushes. The berries consist of small cells each containing a single seed and are tightly packed around a solid core. When ripe, they take on a deep brown shade with a rich, complex, slightly tangy flavor that is sweeter than blackberries. They have a fragile texture and an extremely juicy consistency. They are a sort of intermediate between raspberries and blackberries.

I Boysenberries are rich in vitamins A and C and are a substantial source of dietary fiber. The minerals present in the berry include calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, and potassium. Additional vitamins and minerals found in boysenberries are vitamins B5, B9, K, and E; they are also a source of copper.

Boysenberries have been linked to heart health and maintaining the circulatory system. They have been found to reduce bad cholesterol, thereby lowering the risk of heart disease. They also relax the vessels of the circulatory system, which keeps blood pressure levels balanced.

The fiber in boysenberries adds bulk to stool, reducing the risk of colon cancer, gastrointestinal diseases, and constipation. They also contain folate which is vital in amino acid metabolism. Folate helps in the growth of new cells and reduces the risk of birth defects in the fetus, making it beneficial for pregnant women.
