Wheatgrass is an edible that is usually juiced or turned into powder. Despite the name and the fact that it comes from the wheat plant Triticum aestivum, wheat grass is gluten-free because only the seeds of the wheat grain contain gluten; the grass does not. This unassuming grass has an impressive nutritional profile.

Wheat grass is rich in vitamins A, C, and E, as well as iron, calcium, potassium, and folic acid. It also contains 17 of the 20 amino acids, including 8 essential amino acids (those that your body cannot produce on its own). Like other plants, wheat grass contains chlorophyll. In fact, wheat grass is 70% chlorophyll.

Benefits of wheat grass

Leafy green vegetables such as kale, spinach, and romaine lettuce are some of the best vegetables to eat during pregnancy because they are rich in iron and calcium.

Similar to spirulina, wheat grass helps to remove the toxins from the body, particularly BPA. It also detoxifies the body by breaking down matter in the colon. It gets its detoxifying properties from chlorophyll, which is believed to be a natural detoxifier and supports healthy liver function.

It contains selenium, an essential mineral (you need to obtain it through food) that contributes to a healthy immune system. It also fights inflammation, which is an immune system response that occurs when tissues are damaged by bacteria, toxins, or other causes. Another benefit of wheat grass for the immune system: it is antibacterial.

One of the most interesting things about chlorophyll is how similar it is to hemoglobin, the substance in human blood that carries oxygen from the lungs and other tissues and cells. Research has shown that parts of the chlorophyll molecule can increase the body’s production of globin.

When it comes to antioxidant content, wheat grass is on the podium. Antioxidants are important because they fight free radicals and prevent or reduce oxidative stress. In other words, antioxidants protect you from some diseases.

Difference between wheat grass and barley grass

The differences between wheat grass and barley grass are minimal. One difference is taste. Barley grass has a milder flavor while wheat grass has a bitter taste. The second difference is that barley grass has a higher protein content compared to wheat grass.
