  • ½ cup popcorn not exploded
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
  • ½ teaspoon salt or as you like

Instructions

  • Mix together the popcorn corn and vegetable oil in a small bowl.
  • Transfer the oiled corn to a parchment paper bag and add the salt.
  • Close the bag by folding the top over to seal the ingredients.
  • Place the bag in the microwave and cook on high for 2.5-3 minutes, until you hear a pause of about 2 seconds between each pop.
  • Carefully open the bag to avoid steam and pour the finished popcorn into a bowl to serve.

Microwave Popcorn Tips and Tricks

Here are some helpful tips and tricks to get the best possible result with your homemade microwave popcorn:

Cooking times

If you cook the popcorn on high, it should be ready in about 2.5-3 minutes. You'll know it's done when there's a pause of about 2 seconds between each pop.

Grains left raw

It is normal for some corn kernels to remain raw. Cooking them longer may cause them to pop, but it also risks burning the ready kernels, so it is not recommended.

Taste customization

In addition to salt, you can experiment with different spices, flavorings, and seasonings to create endless variations of popcorn. Try adding sugar, paprika, garlic powder, or your other favorite ingredients.

Conservation

Freshly made popcorn is definitely tastier but you can store it in an airtight container for a couple of days without losing too much of its fragrance.
