The Wine Festival Returns to Montecarlo di Lucca

After an edition canceled due to the pandemic (2020) and one limited by strict restrictions (2021), the 2022 Montecarlo Wine Festival (September 1-11) returns to its former glory, as usual offering a rich program of events that combine food and wine, art, culture, music, and traditions.

The food and wine offer of the Wine Festival in Montecarlo (Lucca) remains unchanged compared to recent editions. The Wine and Green Lounge will start on Sunday, September 4 and conclude on Sunday, the 11th, coinciding with the closing evening of the Wine Festival. Featured are excellent products such as the Sorana bean, the farro from Garfagnana, the fish from the Tuscan coast, the potatoes and flours from the mountains of Lucca and Pistoia. Another novelty in the 2022 edition will be the hosting, equally divided over 4 evenings between the journalist and food and wine expert Fabrizio Diolaiuti and the actress Vania Della Bidia. Among the announced guests are sports journalist Sandro Sabatini and the famous restaurateur and butcher Dario Cecchini. The musical accompaniment for each evening will be provided by the musicians of the Puccini Philharmonic of Montecarlo.

Exhibitions and entertainment

Not only wine and food, but also art and culture at the Wine Festival 2022. The most important exhibition is curated by critic Federico Caloi, scheduled at the Rocca del Cerruglio from September 2 to 18, titled “The Art of Dionysus.” The works of the artists will be exhibited Flavio Bregoli, Giorgio Carezzi, Mario De Sisto, Laura Martucci, Roberto Pasquinelli, Alessandro Priolo.

From September 1 to 11 at the Sala Ex Misericordia, located at via Del Cerruglio 33, there will be the painting exhibition “Artistic Introspection” by the young painter from Pescia Federica Gaspari, promoted by the Livorno-based Choral and Instrumental Association “Filippo De Monte”.

At the entrance of the Teatro dei Rassicurati, from the end of August until late October, the photographic exhibition “Wine and Flavors” will be set up: 30 shots by amateur photographers themed around food and wine, organized by the photography group L’ora Blu, from Bagni di Lucca.

Finally, from August 26 to October 22, under the cloister loggias of the Istituto Pellegrini Carmignani, there will be an exhibition about the Ancient Main Road, a collection of photographs and documents about the royal road linking Lucca and Pistoia, curated by the Istituto Storico Lucchese Sede di Montecarlo, Pescia, Valdinievole, the C.A.I. section Pescia e Valdinievole and the cultural association Vissidarte of Pescia.

Entertainment will not be lacking for both adults and children, with shows and concerts organized by the Pro Loco of Montecarlo in one of the gardens located just below the Fortress. The other garden will be occupied for the entire duration of the festival by the Montecarlo Historical Group, who will also set up a small archery field to give everyone the chance to try the discipline. On September 9, the participants will parade in a historical procession through the streets of the town.

Dates and useful info

The Wine Festival will be held in Montecarlo every evening from September 1 to 11 inclusive. The inauguration is scheduled for Thursday, September 1 at 7:30 PM. On Thursday, September 8, the procession for thefestival of the Madonna of Help, protector of Montecarlo, a key moment of the festive period.

As for access to the village, as in every edition, three public parking lots have been organized. The first, in via Carlo IV, is located under Piazza d’Armi and will allow you to reach the village on foot. It is the closest but also the one whose spaces fill up fastest, so visitors can leave their car in two parking lots at the foot of the village: one located in the Fornace area, the other set up in the Luciani area, so you can reach the festival using the shuttle service, active until midnight.
