Kiwi, also known as Chinese gooseberry, is a vine-grown fruit with over 400 known varieties. Kiwis contain several nutrients, including calcium, magnesium, iron, chromium, potassium, zinc, copper, vitamin E, folic acid, phytonutrients, fiber, and a very potent dose of vitamin C. These nutrients help to:

  • Reduce the risk of osteoporosis
  • Increase energy levels in the body
  • Remove carbon dioxide from the body and maintain body temperature
  • Help regulate blood sugar levels and metabolism
  • Relieve stress and anxiety
  • Prevent heart disease and kidney disorders
  • Keep skin, hair, teeth, and nails strong and healthy
  • Form red blood cells
  • Improve the immune system
  • Provide positive benefits relating to the common cold

Don’t worry about selecting a kiwi that is not fully ripe, as they will maintain their flavor and potency for up to two weeks if refrigerated. However, it is always best to store them separately in a different area of the refrigerator once they have matured. You can speed up the ripening process by placing it in a paper or plastic bag next to a banana. This little trick releases the trapped gas contained in the fruit.

There are numerous kiwi recipes that are so healthy and tasty you will want to try them. These recipes include not only popular drinks and smoothies but also dishes like rolls, wraps, sauces, rice dishes, muffins, pies, popsicles, and even pizza.
