Quandoo is closing. The online restaurant booking platform has announced a planned cessation of activities by 2026, with a precise schedule affecting both end customers and partner restaurants. The news concerns not only those who use the app to choose a place to dine, but also many restaurateurs who over the years have entrusted Quandoo with part of their online booking management.
According to the information on the official update page published by Quandoo, the platform will remain operational until September 30, 2026 to discover restaurants and make new bookings. From October 1, 2026, however, it will no longer be possible to make reservations, redeem loyalty points, or use account functions. The site, app, and remaining infrastructure will then be definitively offline by December 31, 2026.
When does Quandoo close?
The closure of Quandoo will follow a series of gradual steps. The official announcement was published on March 24, 2026. Until June 30, 2026 users will be able to continue accumulating loyalty program points, while the last date to redeem eligible points and make new bookings will be September 30, 2026.
Starting the next day, October 1, 2026, all consumer services will be terminated. This means users will no longer be able to use Quandoo to book a table, modify their account, or redeem any remaining points. The platform may remain visible in a limited and static form until the final decommissioning scheduled for December 31, 2026.
For bookings already made with dates after September 30, 2026, Quandoo clarifies that the reservation will remain valid and the restaurant will receive the necessary information. After that date, however, any changes will have to be handled by contacting the venue directly.
Is the closure only for Italy?
No. The closure does not seem to concern just the Italian market. The official Quandoo page lists several countries and areas where the service is present, including Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Finland, Turkey, Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand.
Also, The Straits Times reports that the closure affects all countries where Quandoo services are offered, with key dates the same for users internationally. Therefore, it is a global decision and not just a scaling down of the service in Italy.
What changes for those who book restaurants online
For end customers, nothing changes immediately. Until September 30, 2026, it will still be possible to use Quandoo to search for restaurants, check availability, and make new reservations. Those who have loyalty points will be able to continue using them within the deadlines indicated by the platform.
The real change will come from October 2026. From that moment on, those accustomed to booking restaurants via Quandoo will have to use other channels: the restaurant’s official website, the Google Business profile, phone, WhatsApp, social media, or any other online booking systems chosen by the restaurant.
For the customer, the advice is simple: if you have a future booking made through Quandoo, especially for dates after September 30, 2026, it is advisable to keep the confirmation and, in case of doubt, contact the restaurant directly. This is even more important for group dinners, special occasions, tasting experiences, or bookings at highly popular venues.
What should restaurants check
For restaurants, the closure of Quandoo is a more delicate transition. It’s not just about replacing an app, but about verifying all the points where the booking system has been integrated over time. Venues using Quandoo should first check if the booking widget is present on the official website, landing pages, social profiles, advertising campaigns, or any pages linked from Google. A non-functional “Book” button, especially in the months following the closure, can cause confusion and lead to lost customers.
Another important point concerns data. According to The Straits Times, Quandoo will continue to offer support to restaurants for data export until December 31, 2026. This means venues should act in time, export future bookings, and arrange the transition to another system before the final closure.
Why this news concerns the entire restaurant industry
The closure of Quandoo opens up a broader reflection on the relationship between restaurants and digital platforms. In recent years, many venues have entrusted part of their visibility and bookings to external tools: apps, portals, marketplaces, systems integrated with search engines and booking services connected to online profiles.
These tools can be useful because they simplify the booking process and help the customer find a table in just a few steps. At the same time, however, they highlight a central issue: when a platform changes strategy, reduces services, or closes, the restaurant must be ready not to lose direct contact with its customers.
For this reason, the closure of Quandoo is not just a technical piece of news. It’s a reminder for the entire food sector: an updated official website, a well-maintained Google profile, clear contact details, a stable booking system, and organized data are not minor details. They are part of the customer experience even before they arrive at the table.
Online bookings: what to do before September 2026
Restaurants that have used Quandoo should take advantage of the coming months to carry out a complete review of their digital presence. The first thing to do is to identify all points where the platform link appears: website, digital menus, social pages, newsletters, local listings, promotional materials, and business profiles.
The second step is to choose an alternative. Each restaurant has different needs: some venues require a simple inquiry form, others a comprehensive management system with shifts, rooms, covers, waiting lists, automatic confirmations, and integrations with Google. The choice should depend on the type of venue, the volume of bookings, and the level of control desired over the relationship with the customer.
Finally, it is important to communicate the change. Regular customers must know where to book after the closure of Quandoo. A clear message on the website, a note on social media, an update to the Google profile, and direct communication to customers already in the database can prevent misunderstandings and lost bookings.
An orderly closure, but not to be underestimated
Quandoo has opted for a gradual closure, with several months’ notice before the definitive discontinuation. This gives customers and restaurants the time needed to organize themselves. However, precisely because the dates are already known, postponing would be a mistake.
For those booking online, the change will be mostly practical: other channels will have to be used. For restaurateurs, however, the closure of Quandoo is an opportunity to rethink their booking system and strengthen their own channels. Because technology may change, platforms can close, but the direct relationship between venue and customer remains one of the most important assets in the restaurant industry.
