Terrazza Aperol, located in the heart of Venice just a few steps from the Ponte dell’Accademia, is a place that embodies the authentic ritual of the aperitif and socializing. In 2021, the Milanese architectural studio Vudafieri-Saverino Partners created an interior design project paying homage to Venetian tradition by reinterpreting it in a contemporary key. The recent renovation has further enriched the main spaces of Terrazza Aperol, including the Bacaro, the Bar, and the Social Room, creating a unique and welcoming environment.
The Meeting of Tradition and Modernity
Architects Tiziano Vudafieri e Claudio Saverino wisely chose materials and elements from Venetian tradition, successfully reinterpreting them in a contemporary way. This allowed for a true immersion into the authentic aperitif atmosphere, while maintaining a touch of modernity and innovation.
The use of the unmistakable orange tones of Aperol Spritz, the famous cocktail that is the star of the Italian aperitif, characterizes the entire Terrazza Aperol space. The architects skillfully paired blue color accents, present in Aperol’s brand identity, to add personality to the environment while still maintaining neutral tones and the typical orange details that distinguish the project.
The Bacaro: a Tribute to Venetian “Cicchetti”
At the center of the restyling project is the Bacaro, the space dedicated to the famous “cicchetti,” Venetian specialties to be enjoyed during the aperitif. Here, the walnut canaletto canteen counter combined with warm white Corian tops gives a decorative touch to the environment. Orange luminous details and lines create a warm and relaxed atmosphere, recalling the typical ambiance of traditional Venetian bacari.
A wall adjacent to the counter features an artwork created in collaboration with the Venice Academy of Fine Arts. The architects chose a fil posé base to achieve a fabric-like optical effect, while the graphic was printed with glossy raised parts in contrast to matte elements and background, creating a unique three-dimensional effect. Blue, together with the typical orange, predominates inside the Bacaro, enveloping the entire space and creating a unique atmosphere.
The Social Room: an Environment for Conviviality
The new Social Room at Terrazza Aperol is a multifunctional space that reflects the very essence of Aperol: conviviality. One of the protagonists of this space is a large oak table made using “bricole,” the poles marking the navigable canals in the Venetian lagoon. This element represents a direct link to Venetian tradition, giving an authentic touch to the environment.
Another distinctive element of the Social Room is the recycled plastic 3D-printed chandelier, designed by the architects to recall classic blown glass chandeliers. This element harmoniously combines sustainable design and Venetian tradition.
The walls of the Social Room are covered with handmade wallpaper from Fortuny, a historic Venetian textile manufacturer. The classic “Canestrello” pattern has been enlarged and creatively positioned, creating a custom pattern. Two lush green walls in stabilized green, framed by panels covered in blue Alcantara, complete the space, providing materiality and an extra touch of color.
The Bar: the Beating Heart of Terrazza Aperol
The Bar at Terrazza Aperol continues to be the beating heart of the entire space. Here you can enjoy a perfect Aperol Spritz and admire the beauty of the city of Venice through the large windows overlooking Campo Santo Stefano.
The Bar environment is dynamic and elegant at the same time. The architects chose to cover the walls with handmade wallpaper from Fortuny, enlarging and positioning the classic “Canestrello” design with a custom-created pattern. This gives a touch of elegance and sophistication to the Bar, creating a unique and welcoming atmosphere.
