A Grado (Gorizia), the Island of the Sun, after last season’s success, by popular demand, the gourmet events return with the Fish nic, the picnics in the lagoon that allow you to enjoy refined dishes and typical products from the Friuli VG area (wines, oil, fish, baked goods) in a spectacular location: Valle del Moro island, a former fishing valley.

Fishing valleys are lagoon areas delimited by embankments or fences where “vallicoltura” is practiced, a type of extensive fish farming (fish breeding). The valleys, whose size can vary significantly from a few dozen hectares up to over a thousand, although they are in fact an artificial environment, are fundamental in preserving the delicate lagoon ecosystem. For this reason, the Grado Turismo Consortium has decided to enhance this extraordinary natural and cultural heritage (it is a very ancient practice, already mentioned in documents from the 11th century) by organizing a pleasant moment of conviviality, combining tradition with food and wine culture. The local products will be introduced by the resident chefs who, at various stations on the island, will prepare tasty and refined dishes and involve participants in a pleasant show cooking experience.

At lunchtime, after the welcome drink, everything needed to enjoy the picnic in peace (blankets, cutlery, glasses, tablecloths, cushions) is set up in the shade of the trees. At that point, each participant receives their own basket with dishes prepared by the chefs at various stations on the island, with two savory stations, one with drinks, and one with sweet products. The food will be paired with DOC regional wines from Friuli. During the Fish nic, you can also sample Santonego®, the typical liqueur from Grado made from a mix of lagoon herbs, among which sea wormwood stands out. After lunch, you can relax, chat, play, or go for a walk.

For the June event, the chefs will offer a fish-based menu, also paying attention to the preparation of delicious vegetarian dishes. Booking is mandatory, subject to availability. The all-inclusive cost is set at €80 for adults and €30 for children.

The participants will meet at the Mandracchio port at 10:30 am to board the taxi boats and reach the island. The return is scheduled for 4:15 pm.

Two more Fish nic events are scheduled for Sunday, August 4, and Sunday, September 9.
