Clorella

The Chlorella is a superfood (rich in healthy nutrients) found in the form of green algae unicellular and contains the highest chlorophyll content of any other edible plant. Chlorella is known to have enormous health benefits due to its high content of many important nutrients including protein, vitamins, iron, and antioxidants. Research shows that these green algae are effective in improving cholesterol levels and for natural body detoxification when taken as a supplement.

Chlorella is similar to spirulina but has different characteristics. While chlorella is a blue-green microalgae, spirulina is a green algae. But not only that. The properties differ between the two algae.

Benefits of Chlorella

Highly nutritious

There is a reason why Chlorella is known as a “superfood“. It is rich in some of the most beneficial nutrients, including proteins (with all nine essential amino acids), vitamin B12, vitamin C, iron (6-40% DV), antioxidants, and traces of potassium, magnesium, calcium, zinc, copper, and other minerals.

Detoxifying

Some heavy metals like lead, cadmium, and iron can be dangerous if present in large amounts in the body. Chlorella supplements can help naturally reduce heavy metal levels.

Boosts immunity

Studies conducted on both humans and animals show visible benefits of chlorella in boosting immunity and helping to fight infections.

Antioxidant

Chlorella is a good source of many important antioxidants, including vitamin C, lycopene, chlorophyll, and others. It contains antioxidants necessary for our body to fight free radicals responsible for many chronic diseases such as cancer and heart disease. These can also help reduce symptoms of diabetes.

Lowers blood pressure

One study shows that consuming chlorella can help lower blood pressure in people who take it regularly. Additionally, chlorella may be effective in maintaining heart and kidney health by ensuring normal blood pressure levels.

Improves aerobic endurance

A study on chlorella’s role in improving endurance (the human lungs’ capacity to saturate oxygen) showed positive results, as all participants showed a significant improvement in aerobic endurance after taking six grams of chlorella for four weeks.

Reduces cholesterol

Numerous studies suggest that chlorella can have a positive impact on cholesterol levels in the body by reducing LDL and other cholesterol. Although there isn’t much research supporting the claims on various other chlorella benefits, it is certainly a superfood in terms of rich nutritional content.

Promotes digestion

Chlorella is also used to increase the number of “good bacteria” in the stomach to aid digestion, fight ulcers, Crohn’s disease, and diverticulitis.

Since raw chlorella is found in algae form and has a tough cell wall, it is not suitable to be consumed or digested as is. The best way to enjoy its benefits is through a powdered or tablet supplement.
