If one of your wishes is to do the job of the baker, know that there are two fundamental requirements to meet and from which there is no way to escape. Yes, because that of bread is an art that requires study, sacrifice, passion, and also a lot of experience. However, if it is your greatest dream, the truth is that nothing is impossible. Let’s discover together the two essential requirements to become bakers.

Study and training

There’s no use beating around the bush: the first fundamental requirement to become a baker is the preparation obtained through study. As you can imagine, bread is a food we all eat, and for this reason, the education you need to gain involves not only the art of making it but also a series of scientific knowledge about food.

For this reason, it is more than essential to attend an online baking course that teaches you to prepare a dough, watch it rise and ferment. A satisfaction not to be underestimated considering that we are talking about a food that is the basis of human nutrition and that, while firmly maintaining its traditional roots, continues to evolve and renew itself every day.

A training course, therefore, proves to be essential as it allows participation in classes that include theoretical lessons and practical workshops. At the end of this, then, you will be able to:

  • have all the necessary knowledge about the raw materials related to baking, know how to use them, understand the behavior during dough processes, fermentation, and baking;
  • master production and baking techniques;
  • move comfortably through dough and fermentation methodologies;
  • create and propose typical and/or the most innovative recipes, or those linked to European and extra-European traditions;
  • become a baker;
  • know the regulations and obtain the HACCP certification.

Experience

The second fundamental requirement to become a baker, needless to say, is experience. The course alone, although complete, is not enough. Before diving into bureaucracy and opening your own bakery, it is much better to do an internship, or find work in small local bakeries or in companies that provide growth in the sector.

Also because, as we mentioned at the beginning, being a baker is more than just a job; it is an art and, as such, must be cultivated. Besides manual skill, in fact, a person who does this job must also be creative. Furthermore, they need to be able to:

  • procure raw materials;
  • take care of the ordinary maintenance of tools and machinery;
  • look after and clean the environments;
  • know how to package baked goods;
  • be able to manage direct sales

Without skills and experience, then, being a baker is practically impossible.

The first step to take, therefore, is to properly train through a course on the subject. The second is to achieve professional qualification, while the third is to practice a lot, in fact, a great deal.

Not forgetting that, as in all things, a good dose of patience and a great – if not enormous – willpower is always essential.
