Tomatoes (preferably cooked) have the highest content of lycopene, a powerful antioxidant useful for combating cellular aging, cardiovascular diseases, and certain types of tumors such as prostate cancer, digestive system cancers, cervical cancer, and breast cancer.

The tomato protects the body from neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. An American study showed a 35% reduction in the risk of prostate cancer for men who consumed 10 or more servings of tomato products per week. The absorption of lycopene increases with cooking as its bioavailability increases with rising temperature.
